The Del Mar Fairgrounds Board has rejected a proposal to relocate the LOSSAN train tracks along the bluffs, prompting the Del Mar City Council to consider the issue next.
The Fairgrounds Board voted against Option A, which proposed moving the tracks underground along Interstate 5.
Community members expressed concerns about the impact of construction on the equestrian community and local hospitality industry.
Carla Hayes highlighted the incompatibility of heavy equipment with horses in San Diego County, which has the highest horse population per capita in California.
SANDAG is exploring alternative relocation options, with a target completion date of 2035 for the rail project.
